People have always asked my mom, "So, what is Mark interested in today?" Since I was a child, I have been an explorer. I like to know how things work by taking them apart. I am an activist, a traveler, an entrepreneur, and most importantly, a listener.

The other day I saw a brilliantly styled word cloud highlighting all the disgusting things they put into Hot Pockets, I was inspired. Over at http://visualingredients.com I am going to be posting a frozen or just plain unhealthy product each day in world cloud form. I’m already two posts in and am quite liking this exercise. When I finish each word cloud, I get to the point of disgust and repulsion for that particular food. By the end of this activity I hope to have expelled all nasty foods from my diet completely.

I eat well already but I could eat better. I do not usually eat these foods that I am sharing but hope in some way this makes someone else think about what food manufacturers put into our food. This all started after I was alerted to the fact that Dorito’s puts MSG in their product.

I’ll also be posting links to websites I find that help a food consumer become more educated about good food. Check it out if you have a second and let me know what you think.

  1. I LOVE this idea. It seems like it’s getting harder and harder to be a conscientious eater/consumer.
Just saw this article on Soy that frustrates me:

Seriously! I’ve given up soy completely. It makes me CRAZY.

Brilliant! I’ve started eating better foods but know I could take it up a notch. I’m not usually a visual learner, but those word clouds really make it sink in how much bad stuff is in very common foods!
