People have always asked my mom, "So, what is Mark interested in today?" Since I was a child, I have been an explorer. I like to know how things work by taking them apart. I am an activist, a traveler, an entrepreneur, and most importantly, a listener.

My journey to Kenya this past June was filled with many faces and voices. Sometimes a camera can be a two-dimensional glimpse into a person’s face. An individual’s expression for just that brief moment. However, this young child’s expression was captured as he had been carrying himself throughout the day.

Our group stepped into a classroom a few minutes before taking this picture. Nearly half the roof was left exposed, a piece of sheet metal flapped in the wind overhead and these kids were attentive. They were eager to learn. We shuffled in to the room and were welcome with bright eyes and brilliant smiles. I immediately noticed his smile, it was infectious.

Before heading to Kenya with The 1010 Project, I noted to the fellow travelers that we had plenty of pictures of children and didn’t need anymore. I actually frowned upon taking anymore pictures of this demographic, because in our photo bank we had plenty. However, what I failed to realize, was the sheer impossibility to avoid snapping photos of the children. They are beautiful. They carry a different attitude towards life than the adults and even older children you see playing on the streets.

People in Kenya greeted me with big smiles and warm hearts and this was no exception:
