How will Twitter respond to Facebook Lite?

This morning I read an article posted on Mashable.com detailing Facebook’s plan to launch a new platform, Facebook Lite. This would be another direct assault on Twitter’s relevancy and ability to convince users that their service is unique. Most reports say this is not in response to Facebook’s acquisition of FriendFeed but one can’t help but notice the timing. For those of you keeping up, Facebook acquired less popular social media site, FriendFeed, a few days ago.

As a fan and avid supporter of Twitter, I can’t help but notice their increased decline in importance. Their are also rumors that Facebook will introduce a new Adobe Air based program, much like the famed Tweetdeck. When will Twitter respond with more customizable profiles? When will they introduce an easier way to search and categorize followers? When will they do something to step-up their game in response to Facebook’s offensive?

My encouragement for Twitter is to increase security and deter bot profiles from completely turning the Twitterscape into a wasteland. Thoughts? Leave a comment.
